How to create labels in Gmail

Creating folders in email helps organize emails and make them easier to access. And if you use the Gmail service, you can create folders under the name (Labels). And start moving emails into those categories to organize them.

For example: you can put all work emails for a particular client in one label, and you can store event planning emails in another label.

Here’s how to create labels in Gmail and move emails to them to better organize your inbox:

1- How to create labels in Gmail:


Labels can be created in the Gmail app on iPhone and in the desktop version, but you can’t create them using the Gmail app on Android phones, but you can use the desktop version to create labels, and then add messages to them using the app on Android.

To create a label in the desktop version of Gmail, follow these steps:

1- Go to the Gmail website and sign in to your account.

2- Click on the settings icon that appears in the form of a gear in the upper right of the screen, then click on the “See all settings” option.

3- In the Labels tab, scroll down to the Labels section, and click Create new label.

4- Enter the name of the classification you want, then click Create. If you want the new label to be added within an existing label, select the Nest label under option shown below the new label name, and select the previous label you want the new label to go to.

To create a label in the Gmail app on iPhone or iPad; Follow the following steps:

Open the Gmail app on your iPhone or iPad.
Sign in to your account.
Click the three-line menu icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
Scroll down until you reach the Labels section, then click Create new.
In the pop-up menu, enter the name of the rating you want (maximum 225 characters), then click Done.

How to add emails to labels in Gmail:

After creating labels in Gmail, you can start adding emails to those labels to organize them by following these steps:

In the desktop version of Gmail, click the boxes next to the emails you want to label, and click the labels icon to the right of the top toolbar. If you’re using the Gmail app, tap the circular sender profile icon for all the emails you want to label, tap the three-dot icon, and select the Label option in the pop-up.
In both the desktop and app versions, check the boxes opposite the labels you want to add messages to. Then click the Apply button in the desktop version, and if you are using the Gmail application, click the checkmark that appears in the upper right.

In this way, those messages will appear in the category you chose, and they will remain visible on the main email page, and if you want to move them to the category without appearing on the main mail page, click the Move option instead of the Label option.

How to add emails to labels automatically:

You can automatically add a group of email messages that share a specific factor such as sender address, or access date, to a particular label by following these steps:

1- Open Gmail on your computer, and click the Show search options icon located on the right side of the search bar.

2- Choose Filters. You can filter by From, To, Subject, Date, or other factors that will appear to you.

3- After setting the filters, click on the Create Filter option.

4- On the next page, click the box next to Apply the label and choose a label from the drop-down list.

5- Click the Create Filter button.

How to edit or delete a category name:

You can edit or delete labels in Gmail at any time, using the desktop version or the app for iPhone.

In the desktop version:

1- Click on the settings icon that appears in the form of a gear in the upper left side of the screen, then select the “See all settings” option.

2- On the Labels tab, scroll down until you reach the Labels section.

3- Click the category name to modify it, enter the new name, and then click the Enter or Return key. Or click the edit button that appears under the Actions tab.

4- To delete the category, click the remove button that appears under the Actions tab, then click Delete.

In the Gmail app on iPhone:

  • Click the three-line menu icon in the upper left corner, next to the search bar.
  • Scroll to the bottom and click on the Settings option
  • On the next screen, select the email address you want to apply the change to.
  • Scroll down on the next page and select the Label settings option in the Labels section.
  • Click the label that you want to edit or delete.
  • Click on the (Name) field to enter a new name, or click on the option (Delete … then the name of the classification) to delete the classification.
